Welcome to the bioinspired engineering research group. We are interested in understanding the “super powers” animal species has evolved to fight disease, regenerate tissue, change colour instantaneously and resist the ageing process. Projects past and present have been inspired by the sea lamprey, the squid and the naked mole rat.
Together with Dr Ewan St-John Smith at the University of Cambridge , we look at the biophysics of the Naked Mole Rat, an animal that has unusual ageing behaviour and disease resistance. For more information on the naked mole rat see the naked mole rat initiative.
I am very much a hands on scientist and spend much of my time in the lab. If you would like to join the group as either a PhD student or postdoc please send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
